Head Coach of the Black Starlets,Karim Zito, says he is not happy about the neglect of Ghana ‘s under 23 male team, the Black Meteors.
According to him,the team has experienced less attention ,and nobody seems to pay attention to them anymore.
“Our Black Meteors seems neglected which is very shocking“. Zito told Ghanacrusader radio
The former Asante Kotoko coach also suggested that a system is created so that national teams feed on each other for talents to avoid struggles with getting players to represent at that level.
“We should have a transition system in our various national teams, Black starlets should succeed Black Satellite, Black satellite to Black meteors and finally meteos to Black Stars”.
Meanwhile, the Black Meteors are expected to kick start their 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign against neighbours Togo in November.
But as of now ,there has been no news on when the team will start preparations.
Also with recent comments by Malik Jabir who has been the coach for the team since 2014,there is still uncertainty about who the head coach of the team is.Jabir complained about unpaid salary for the past three years and threatened not to go back to his post again.
But with the qualifiers for the 2019 AFCON looming ,the new system implemented by CAF requires that teams compete in three double headers at the preliminary stages which also serves as qualifying rounds played in a knockout form.
Ghana have been drawn against Togo which will be honoured over two legs between November 12 and 20 ,2018 but there are no signs of that with almost a month to go.
Black Meteors would be eyeing a place in next year’s tournament to be held in Morocco. Ghana have missed out on the new Olympics Games qualifying tournament since its introduction in 2011.
Defending champions Nigeria plus a host of sides are exempted from the first round of the qualifiers, namely : Algeria, Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
