Former President John Dramani Mahama has eulogised the late Professor John Atta Mill six years after his death.
Mr Mahama, who is on an observer mission in Zimbabwe, took to his Facebook Wall on Tuesday, 24 July 2018, and stated that Professor Mills “epitomised the principles of peace” and treated all Ghanaians equally no matter their political affiliation.
The immediate past president wrote on his Facebook page|:
“Six years ago today, your death was a most earthshaking moment in Ghana’s political history. You epitomized the principles of peace and treatment of all Ghanaians equally no matter their political affiliation. Those principles you represented, are even more relevant today than ever before.
Rest in Peace, Prof.”
Professor Mills served as President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012. He died on 24 July 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, three days after his 68th birthday.
Though the cause of death was not immediately released, he had been suffering from throat cancer and had been to the US for medical reasons.
Announcing his death, his office noted that he died hours after being taken ill, but a presidential aide said that he had complained of pains the day prior to his death.
Mr Mahama, who was Vice-President at the time, was sworn in as substantive President and served the remainder of the tenure.
