Spokesperson for Aduana Stars football club , Evans Oppong, wants the club to be given another chance to represent Ghana in any of Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s inter club competitions.
According to him, the club will not look like strangers in any of the competitions , should they be given the nod to represent Ghana. He thinks the club’s recent experience in the CAF Champions league and more recently the group stage of the Confederation Cup is more than enough grounds to preform well in the competition.
“Aduana Stars should be given the nod to represent Ghana in Africa because we don’t need any new preparation before we can participate. We[Aduana] played both the champions league and the Confederations cup not long ago.” He told Ghanacrusader radio.
There have not been active football on the local scene after the famous investigative piece by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger eye PI team exposed widespread corruption in the game. The standoff led to a halt of the Ghana Premier League which was just about delving into the second round.
With this current situation, it means newly formed FIFA/CAF Normalisation Commitee in connection with the Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA) would have to decide on which teams to represent the country in next year’s inter club competition.
According to CAF, countries are to submit the names of representatives for the inter clubs competitions by the 15th of October,2018.
Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko were Ghana’s representatives in the ongoing CAF inter-club competitions.
Aduana Stars qualified to play in the CAF Champions League after winning the 2016/17 Ghana Premier league whiles Asante Kotoko qualified to play the Confederations cup by winning the MTN FA cup.
