The Black Stars of Ghana defeated the Blue Samuari of Japan to win the Kirin Challenge Cup on Wednesday at the Nissan Sports Stadium.
The West African giants put up a spirited performance to win the game 2-0.
From the blast of the referee’s whistle, the four-time African champions unsettled the Asian side and they opened the scoring on the 8th minute thanks to Thomas Partey’s exquisite free-kick.
After going down, Japan warmed themselves into the game but the closet they came Richard Ofori in post for Ghana stood to the test.
Japan intensified the pressure on Ghana in search of the equalizer but the Black Stars’ back four led by Nicholas Opoku was on hand to prevent them from getting the equalizer.
Japan started the second half on a good note as they dominated play. However, against the run of play Ghana had a penalty on the 52nd minute after Emmanuel Boateng, who was making his senior debut was brought in the box.
Boateng elected himself for the kick and doubled Ghana’s lead. The goal was his first goal for the Black Stars.
Japan couldn’t recover as Ghana maintained their two-goal lead to win the clash.
