UEFA Super Cup 2019: Meet The Female Referee Who’s Set To Make History In Liverpool vs Chelsea Clash

History will be made tonight when Stephanie Frappart takes to the pitch to referee the Uefa Super Cup match between Chelsea and Liverpool.

The French referee will become the first female to take charge of a major UEFA men’s game, a decision that was announced by UEFA on August 2nd.

Frappart is an experienced official and has taken charge of key matches in the footballing world including the finals of the Women World Cup that was played in July between the United States and the Netherlands in Lyon.

She also took charge of the 2017 UEFA Women’s EURO semi-final where the Netherlands played England.

Frappart made history domestically in France as she became the first female referee to officiate a Ligue 1 match when she took charge of the match between SC Amiens and RC Strasbourg in April.

Ligue 1 will see a lot of her in the coming season after it was announced in June that the Val-d’Oise native would be promoted to join the pool of Ligue 1 referee on a permanent basis for the 2019/20 campaign.

Speaking ahead of the match, Frappart exuded confidence that she will get the job done, adding that there was no difference between the men and women football.

“Of course we feel ready,” the 35-year-old said on the eve of the game. “We train a lot, all the time, we’re not afraid about this game as we’re always ready for all the games.

“I think there is not a lot difference, because football is the same. Only teams play differently, men and woman we cannot referee the same game: refereeing is the same, football is the same, I would do the same I do in women’s football,”

Frappart will be assisted by Manuela Nicolosi and O’Neill of the Republic of Ireland, just as she was for the Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands.
