UEFA Champions League: Athletico Madrid Eyes Chelsea Scalp In London

Athletico Madrid will be looking to avenge their first-leg home defeat when they travel to London to play Chelsea in the final UEFA Champions League Group C tie at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, 5th, December, 2017 at 7:45 PM.

The two have met six times in the competition; Chelsea have won 2, Athletico Madrid 2 and 2 have ended in draws.

The first league between the two in Spain finished 2-1 in favour of Chelsea.

Chelsea have won four and drawn one of their last five matches in all competition while Athletico have also managed four wins and drawn one in their last five games in all competition.

Chelsea FC are already through but will secure top spot with win or if Roma drops points at home to Qarabag.

Athletico Madrid, on the other hand, need to win and hope Roma do not finish second. If Roma and Athletico Madrid finish on nine points, the latter will go through with superior Head-To-Head.

AS Roma will do battle with Qarabag in other Group C game at the Stadio Olympico in Rome.

Both have met once in the Champions League and that was in the first league, Baku in Azerbaijan. 2-1 it ended in favour of AS Roma.

AS Roma have won three, drawn one and lost one in their last five outings in all competitions whereas Qarabag have won four and drawn one in the last five games in all competition.

Roma will go through with a win or if Athletico fail to win at Chelsea and Qarabag  will fginish bottom even if they pull a shock in Rome.

In other fixtures tonight, In Group A, Manchester United will welcome CSKA Moscow to Old Trafford while Basel face a tough trip Benfica .

In Group B, PSG will trek to Germany to face Bayern Munich in a mouth-watering encounter as  Celtic rub shoulders with Anderlecht.

Finally, In Group D, Juventus will be away at Olympiacos in Greece and Barcelona will engage Sporting CP at the Nou Camp in Spain.
