Today In History: Duke Micah Beats Ekow Wilson To Win WBO Belt

On December 26, 2015, Ghana’s Duke Micah captured the WBO Africa bantamweight title with an eighth-round TKO over Ekow Wilson at Accra Sports Stadium.

Wilson was competitive early but Micah displayed superior boxing skills, landing clean shots up and downstairs.

Nevertheless, Wilson upped his attack in the middle rounds, building aggression but Micah relied on his hand speed to stymie the attack. Wilson’s only strategy to catch his breath was to clinch against the former Olympian who drew plenty of plaudits from ringsiders.

A fired-up Micah came out in the seventh with a series of uppercuts and one right hook to Wilson’s ribs that sent him crashing to the mat, where he immediately began vomiting. Wilson managed to make it to his feet and was saved by a bell that rang immediately after.

The time between rounds gave him and his team enough time to assess the situation. He would retire on his stool before the start of the seventh. WBO African title at stake.
