Assistant coach of Ghana’s senior national team, Ibrahim Tanko, has assured high-performing local players of a place in the Black Stars squad as AFCON 2019 beckons.
The deputy coach sought to calm the anxieties of local players who feel national team coaches tend to favour foreign-based players in call-ups without affording locally-based players a look-in.
Tanko sent a note of comfort to the vast spread of local players, urging them to keep faith in the national team handlers. He insisted “coach James Akwesi Appiah maintains an open-door policy for all Ghanaian footballers.”
“We should expect one or two local players to make the initial 30 man squad for the training tour”, Tanko affirmed in his engagement with local press.
“There will be surprises”, Tanko responded with an underlining smile when quizzed about the much anticipated list of players for the upcoming AFCON in Egypt.
