Ex-Hearts of Oak captain Thomas Abbey has been named Sports Writers Association of Ghana Footballer of the Year (Local) at a ceremony in Accra on Friday night at the International Conference Center.
Abbey was the club’s top goal scorer with 13 goals and third in the Ghana Premier League chart.
The pacy winger claimed four man-of-the-match awards with 15 goals in all competitions.
He played a key role as the Local Black Stars won the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations on home soil.
He beat off competition from Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong and Stephen Sarfo of Berekum Chelsea.
Abbey is currently with Egyptian side Ismaily.
