Suspended UEW Lecturer: I Have Not Been Reinstated


One of the suspended lecturers at the University of Education-Winneba Dr. Emmanuel Sarpong has said he has not be recalled back to post, contrary to claims in the media.

He was reacting to media reports which claims some of the lecturers who were sacked by embattled Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Afful-Broni have been reinstated as part of a peace accord following the tensions that have engulfed the school since Monday.


An impasse between the VC and some of his lecturers and the member of parliament for the Efutu constituency – where the university is sited- resulted in a chaotic demonstration on campus on Wednesday by students leading to the destruction of several school properties.

The students contend some of their most efficient lecturers have been victimized by the Vice Chancellor as he seeks to asset his authority over the school. Speaking to Starr News Friday Monitored by, Dr. Sarpong, who was suspended for abstaining in a vote during a meeting,said he is yet to receive a call from any authority at the school.

“I have not received a call from anyone yet. I was suspended 13 months after the supposed offense. My suspension letter was signed by the Vice Chancellor himself.

“Reason is that I decided not to partake in a vote because I had not consulted by union. I told them I was on the committee on the account of the lecturers so I had to know their views before voting in a particular direction and I left. And that was all.

“This Monday I was in class when they brought my letter and said I had to leave so I had nothing to do. This was 13 months after the incident happened”. He hinted
