St. Augustines’ College put up a splendid performance to emerge as winners of this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz.
After an enthralling contest, the boys from Cape Coast bagged 39 points to beat their counterparts from Legon Presbyterian SHS (Presec) who got 34 points and St. Peter’s 25points.
This year’s National Science and Maths Quiz attracted interesting scenes as it was an all boys’ final at the National Theatre.
Presec have won it five times and St. Peter’s as well as St Augustines were chasing second tittles respectively.
In today’s contest, St. Augustines showed their mettle and dominance having led right from round one.
At the end of round one, St. Augustine’s College netted 26pts, Presec, Legon: 21pts and St. Peter’s SHS: 12pts. Round two ended with St. Augustine’s College bagging 28pts, Presec, Legon: 20pts and St. Peter’s SHS: 11pts.
The latter area of round 4 produced a very closer margin between the two top schools as Presec capped 34 points, closely following St. Augustines’ 36 points. St. Peter’s lagged bottom with 25 points.
In the riddle segment of round five, St. Augustines again took advantage of flip-flops from Presec and maintained their dominance by providing the correct answers.
The National Science and Maths Quiz has become an avenue for intense rivalry between secondary schools. Old students, though having left the schools for a long time, use the bandwagon of the quiz to boast of their intellectual prowess.
The quiz, according to organisers, Primetime Ghana Limited, is to generate interest of students in science, mathematics and technology for the development of Ghana.
