Senegal have been picked as host country for the 2022 Youth Olympic games.The International Olympic Committee on Monday handed the west African country its first opportunity to host an Olympic event.
Senegal beat fellow African countries Nigeria, Botswana and Tunisia to get the hosting rights for the event.
This is the first ever time Africa is hosting an Olympics competition.
Three cities have been earmarked to host the tournament,the capital city Dakar; Diamniadio, close to the capital; and the coastal resort of Saly would host the Junior Olympics.
Senegal President Macky Sall was present on Monday to see the International Olympic Committee and gave a confirmation of what the executive board’s preference from last month looked like.
Sall says the government-backed project will build a 50,000-seat Olympic Stadium.
According to the IOC , the games will be held in May or June(summer), at the end of the dry season to “greatly reduce the prevalence of tropical diseases.”
The 2022 Summer Youth Olympic Games will be the fourth edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games and the seventh edition of the Youth Olympic Games.Meanwhile the 2018 edition is currently ongoing in Buenos Aires,Argentina.
