The ban was placed on Thursday, 14 May 2018. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) cautioned the general public to respect the order.

A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, dated Thursday, 10 May, said: “The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) wishes to inform all residents in its jurisdiction that this year’s ban on drumming and noisemaking commences from 14th May to 14th June 2018.

“It has, therefore, set the following guideline in the interest of peace, harmony and national security; during the period of the ban, the usual form of worship should be confined to the premises of churches/mosques and noise levels minimised to the barest limit possible. The positioning of loudspeakers outside the premises of churches, mosques and pubs are banned. Roadside evangelists are to cease their activities during this period.”
