Dancehall artistes Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have been stripped of all the awards they won at the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards following a decision the Vodafone Ghana Music Award board took for their roles in the infamous brawl that took place at the recently held VGMA awards.
In a press briefing inside Alisa hotel, the CEO of Charter House and other board members agreed that Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale should not be part of future awards whilst the awards they both won on the night are now invalid.
Charterhouse, Organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards thus failed to announce the final two category winners “Most Popular Song Of The Year’ & “Artist Of the year” citing that the two dancehall artistes violated some rules of the awards scheme.
Well, we at Buzzslate.com have compiled a list of dancehall artistes in Ghana who could win the Reggae/dancehall artiste of the year after the Vodafone Ghana Music Award board banned the two top dancehall artistes in Ghana indefinitely for their role in the infamous brawl that took place at the recently held VGMA awards.
Reggae/Dancehall Artistes In Ghana
Samini is a Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall recording artiste from Wa, Ghana. His genre of music is a melodious mixture of highlife, dancehall, reggae and hip-hop. He terms his brand of music as the “African dancehall”. Even though he has never won the Reggae/Dancehall artiste of the year, in 2005, he won the VGMA Artiste of the Year and now that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy would not be in the scene for some time, we believe he has a chance to win that category.
Abdul Razak Issahaku, performing as Iwan, is a reggae and dance hall artiste from Ghana, West Africa. Being a product of University of Ghana, Legon, Iwan, also known as “Lyrical Gunshot”, pursued Theatre Art and Music and Dance and now holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He won the Reggae Song of the year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2011.
3. Fancy Gadam
Mujahid Ahmed Bello, known by his stage name Fancy Gadam, is a Dagbani language Ghanaian afropop, dancehall and reggae musical artiste. He won the 2018 Hiplife Artiste of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo known in showbiz circles as Epixode. Epixode contested and won the second edition of the dancehall king contest in 2011. In 2013 he signed his first professional contract with Global One Entertainment and released his first hit single ” Tun up”. He got nominated in the discovery of the year category of the BASS awards in that year.In 2014 he got nominated in the “Unsung” category of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Michael Okine also known in showbiz as Jupitar. Jupitar’s love for music goes as far back as 15yrs ago but he decided to pursue his music aspirations in 2010. He quickly became a household name and gained respect and recognition amongst his peers which led to collaborations with Tinny, Trigmatic, Eazzy, Samini, just to mention but a few. Jupitar has been nominated in five different award categories for the BASS Awards.
6. Ras Kuuku
Kojo Kurankye aka Ras Kuuku merged with his cousin to form a group named SM Bradez. The group gave birth to a hit track titled “Wo Ne Me Hemaa” which was all over airwaves in Ghana. Ras Kuuku after that highlife album with his cousin went solo after being exposed to the Rastafarian movement. In 2017, he was nominated for Kwame Nkrumah Award for (ARTISTE OF THE YEAR) at Bass Awards 2017.
7. AK Songstress
Akosua Kwakye which is the real name of AK Songstress is a young talented dancehall artiste from the Ashanti region of Ghana, the female reggae/dancehall artiste grew up with her granny and two siblings. She won the award for The Best Female Musician (GH) City People Entertainment Awards Nigeria 2015. She also won the best female vocalist Bass Awards 2015.
Winner of MTN Hitmaker Season 7, Okailey Verse known as OV came unto the music scene not long ago but she could pull a surprise and win the category if she works hard for the year in review and since she’s signed to Stonebwoy’s record label, Burniton Music Group, you can never predict.
9. Knii Lante
Nii Lante Okunka Blankson, professionally known as Knii Lante, is a Ghanaian reggae, soul, and Afro pop musician, songwriter, and medical doctor from Accra, Ghana. He won the Best Male Vocalist at the Bass Awards 2017.
The VGMAs last Saturday was marred by violence when fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy clashed on stage in a free-for-all brawl. Stonebwoy was on stage to take his award for for reggae/dancehall music artiste of the year.
The two artistes have since apologised for their actions but the board of VGMA have stripped off all awards won by the two and subsequently suspended them indefinitely from the awards scheme.
