Presidential endorsement of Jospong won’t affect investigations

The Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame has allay fears of anti corruption groups that the president’s endorsement of Jospong group will not affect ongoing investigations of Jospong Group.

The Jospong Group, a mother company of Zoomlion ltd is being investigated for various corrupt acts.

Among several acts of corruption allegations, the company is being investigated for inflating the cost of 240 litre bin from GHS 135.00 to GHS 150.00.

However despite the ongoing investigation the president showered praises on CEO of Jospong Groups for addressing sanitation issues in the country.

The president also sympathises with the businessman over the various corruption scandals he is reported to have been involved in.

“When you are at the forefront of doing things like you are, you will be the subject of controversy, it goes with the territory. I know you a little bit, and I know you are capable of handling it. Stay focused,” the president said.

His comments revived a lot of condemnation from anti graft bodies who claimed the president’s comment could undermine the ongoing investigation by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

But speaking in an interview with Accra based Joy FM, the Deputy A-G noted that there is nothing wrong with the president appreciating what the Jospong Group is doing in dealing with sanitation in the country.

“I did not hear him to be encouraging or acting in a way contrary to law, neither did I hear him instruct or discourage any investigative body from prosecuting him,” he said.

He added that “There is no way the actions of the president can impede or interfere with actions or steps by his appointees or members of his government in dealing with Zoomlion.” The Deputy Attorney General said state institutions handling the case are doing so independently.
