A parliamentary aspirant in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Wisdom Nyamuame, has vowed to stop the upsurge of votes in favour of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ketu North constituency.
Speaking in a telephone interview with Ghanacrusader after filing his nomination papers a while ago, Mr. Nyamuame, who is the current Presiding Member of the Ketu North District Assembly observed that the NPP’s electoral numbers which have seen some appreciable increments in the world bank of the NDC must give cause for worry to all party faithfuls.
“I am offering myself as a leader to arrest this trend. This is the only place in the whole of Volta region that NPP have been getting some appreciable votes. I want to stop that. This place is the NDC zone and it must remain so,” he said.
In the last elections of 2016, current Minister of Culture and Chieftaincy, Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi shocked political watchers when he garnered an impressive 15,596 votes on the ticket of the NPP to trail NDC’s James Klutse Avedzi who won with 25,260 votes. And this was the highest of constituency votes for the NPP in the Volta region.
Mr. Nyamuame, who is a 40-year-old chemical engineer, said he is bringing dynamism on board as a leader.
He said: “I have some strategies which I won’t disclose for now but I am bringing on board all our comrades and party members who left the party for one reason or the other. The youth are the ones going to lead this campaign. We are going door to door, house to house. We are entering every place to campaign.”
“Look, I want to use this opportunity to create job openings for the teeming youth here. We must empower the youth with skills and pass the proper laws that will benefit the people. This is why I want to go to Parliament to represent my people. I want to see the principle of fairness and equity applied in this constituency. There are four traditional zones here and development has not been fairly across board. My leadership is to bring equity here.”
According to Mr. Nyamuame, the NDC party in Ketu North is suffering symptoms of the economic term “law of diminishing returns” as total number of votes’ gap with the NPP continues to close up.
He said the party must look to rebrand and bring new faces to change direction and appeal more to voters.
Incumbent Member of Parliament James Klutse Avedzi has occupied the seat for 15 years and counting, and some think he must bow out for fresh and young blood to take over. So far, five contenders have picked up forms in order to give Mr. Avedzi a run for his money. They include Don Emmanuel Agbanyo, Gabriel Kwabla Kwamigah, Princess Mamaga, Agbesi Jibreal Hamenu and Hon.Wisdom Nyamuame.
Hon. Wisdom Nyamuame told Ghanacrusader he is the new face to represent the party in the 2020 elections. He said having looked at the enthusiasm of his support base across the length and breadth of the Ketu North constituency, a landslide victory awaits his team in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Mr. Nyamuame, born in Tadzewu, studied Chemical Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He also holds an MSc in Economics of Technology and Development from the University of Cape Coast. He has had varied experiences serving in various capacities in the corporate world until 2015 when he branched mainstream to serve as Presiding Member of the Ketu District Assembly.
