Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the election which was scheduled for Saturday, 16th February 2019.
The Commission in a statement explained that, following a careful review of it implementation of its logistics and operarional plans and the determination to conduct free, fair and credible election, the Commission hence, came to the conclusion that proceeding with election scheduled is no longer feasible.
Stating in the statement, the chairman of INEC alluded that, even though the decision was a difficult one for the Commission make, it was necessary for a successful delivery of the election and the consolidation of Nigeria’s democracy.
Consequently, the Commission has decided to reschedule the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to Saturday, 23rd February, 2019. However, the Commission will meet with key stakeholders to update them on this development at 2pm on Saturday 16th February, 2019 at the Abuja International Conference Centre, the statement said.
