Hearts of Oak extended their lead at the top of Zone B table in the Normalisation Special Cup competition following their 1-0 home triumph over Karela United on Wednesday. Christopher Bonney’s late penalty handed the Phobians the three points in match day 12 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Elsewhere, WAFA also suffered a shocking 1-0 home loss to Elmina Sharks. George Amanoo’s strike stung the academy boys at their favourite Sogakope Red Bull Arena. Liberty Professionals also recorded a 2-0 home victory over Inter Allies with George Ansong and Francis Owusu scoring for the scientific soccer lads at the Carl Reindolf Park, Dansoman.
In Zone A, the battle for the two top spots that will ensure qualification got so keen as Kotoko came back to winning ways with an Abdul Ganiyu 76th minute penalty. That helped the Porcupines to secure an important 1-0 home win over Eleven Wonders.
Those three points in Kumasi have consolidated the Porcupines’ second position on the table as Medeama, despite being out of action on the match day, still lead the zone with 19 points. Kotoko have 18 points while Ashantigold are third with 17 points.
At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea suffered their eighth defeat of the campaign when they lost 3-1 at home to Bechem United. Berekum Chelsea first found the back of the net through Francis Twene but Kojo Mensah Achau, Charles Mensah and Hope Aveyevu scored to hand Bechem United an emphatic away win.
In the last game, Dreams FC saw off Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Tema Park in the last mid-week match. The match had been halted on Wednesday due to heavy rains but was restarted from the 50th minute on Thursday.
Kingsley Nteng pulled the hosts level in the early second half, but Richard Addae scored a second to give the visitors an important victory which took them above their opponents in group B.
The three goals scored today made a total of 17 goals scored in midweek from seven matches in week 12.
