Hearts of Oak could not make it two consecutive Special Cup wins as they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Elmina Sharks at Nduom Sports Stadium. The Phobians went into the clash brimming with loads of confidence following a 1-0 victory over Dreams FC last Sunday.
But a lacklustre performance ensured Kim Grant’s side suffered their first defeat in the competition. The visitors approached the game in a spirited fashion as they battered the Sharks and also went close to opening the scoring but Kwadwo Obeng’s fierce shot went just off wide.
Sharks almost grabbed the lead midway through the first half when Richard Mpong effort was beautifully cleared by Mohammed Alhassan. The first half looked very balanced as both teams failed to score with the set-pieces and chances created as it ended in a scoreless draw.
Hearts could have opened the score through Kojo Obeng on the 78th minute but his strike went wide. The visitors failed to reorganize themselves after the recess as the home side netted in the 83rd-minute mark courtesy Felix Addo’s goal from a goal-mount scramble.
The Phobians dominated the entire second half but failed to make it count in goals as Elmina Sharks collected the maximum points to continue their unbeaten run in the competition after a goalless draw against Inter Allies in match day one.
