Radio XYZ broadcaster Salifu Maase, popularly known as, Mugabe, will today, March 13, 2019, reappear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to assist with investigation over a death threat on the life of the head of Investigations at Joy FM, Manasseh Azure Awuni.
Mugabe was released after being interrogated by the CID yesterday, having been alleged to have said on his program on Radio XYZ that he had credible information regarding a threat on the life of Manasseh Awuni.
In a media interaction after the release of his client, lawyer George Loh, who declined to respond to whether Mugabe has been charged or cautioned by the police intimated that, they were went to answer questions by the investigation team.
“We received an invitation to come and help the police with investigations today. We came, we interacted with the team of investigators. We have given them a statement and we are supposed to report back tomorrow for further deliberations and instructions,” he stated.
The interrogation by the CID comes against the backdrop of a documentary on some alleged militia group training at the former seat of government, Osu Castle, which has dominated major conversations in the country, since its airing last week by Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni.
It could be recalled that, the president, Akufo – Addo called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reach out to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to outline a road map towards disbanding their militia groups. He made this call during the 2019 State of the Nations Address. But the NPP is yet to honour the president’s instruction.
The NDC however wrote to the president and proposed a meeting, aimed at resolving the menace. They suggested that, the meeting should go beyond the two parties to include all political parties, civil society organisations, representatives of the media, representatives of the military, police and other security agencies, as well as any other relevant stakeholders.
