MLS: Bob Bradley Praises Latif Blessing’s Versatility

Former Dansoman Liberty Professionals forward and top scorer in the Ghana Premier League ,Latif Blessing, received massive praise from Los Angeles FC head coach, Bob Bradley, for his performance against Portland Timbers in Sunday’s 4-1 victory.

Blessing who started the game from the bench, was introduced in the 32nd minute to play in a makeshift role, right back, due to an early injury to regular right back Steven Beitashour.

The youngster gave a good account of himself playing in that role however catching the attention of manager Bradley who was very happy and impressed with the performance of the Ghanaian.

Speaking after the game on Sunday, the manner shared his thoughts on Blessing.

“I scoffed at the notion of Latif Blessing as a fullback. At the very least, I’d never have imagined it would work against a team of the caliber of last year’s MLS Cup finalists and with Diego Valeri and Sebastian Blanco lurking.

“Latif is going to play that position in his own way and we’ll work with him in terms of some positional details but you don’t try to fill his head with the textbook.”

That particular encounter marked Blessing’s second appearance of the new MLS season and he has racked up a total of 76 minutes so far.

It looks weird to see a forward playing in such a position but Blessing says he is always prepared to put everything on the line for his team.

“This was my first time playing right back. When we’re at training, sometimes they put me at right back. At any time, I’m always prepared to play right back. When the game starts, they say, ‘Latif, be ready to play right back.’ So I’m ready. I’m ready to play any position they put me in.

“As a player, I need to be ready to play anywhere. So any position, yeah, any position — I can play goalie, I can play right back, I can play left back, I can play central mid, so any position you put me.”

Blessing would be targeting a third appearance in the MLS this season when LA FC travel to face Ebenezer Ofori’s New York City FC on March 17 .
