Controversial private legal practitioner lawyer Maurice Ampaw has jabbed President Akufo for commenting on the MIDLAND assault saga.
According to the lawyer, the presidents comment has not given a fair ground for both parties to have their concerns addressed in court as one is considered innocent until proven guilty.
He added that the statement by the president could “automatically dampen the morale of the police service” and open personnel up for absolute disrespect by the public.
Such a situation, he explained during a discussion on an Accra based local television station is a “recipe for chaos” and has the potential to make things difficult for the president.
In his opinion, the issue ought to be addressed professionally and without necessarily breaking the spirit and morale of officers of the service.
President Akufo Addo commenting on a viral video in which a policeman is seen molesting a nursing mother at MIDLAND Savings and Loans Company noted that:
“Yesterday we had some very bad news in Accra – police beating up a woman who had gone to get money at the Midland Loans and Savings Company. I want to say here: policemen are meant to protect citizens and not to assault citizens.” he had said.
“The measures that the IGP has taken to sanction the erring policeman and to make sure these don’t happen again, have my complete support. I support 100 percent the measures he has taken so that we can stop these incidents from proliferating,” he added.
