Match Report: Kotoko Edge Past NEA Salamina Into FA Cup Semis

Asante Kotoko defeated NEA Salamina 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2016/17 MTN FA Cup in fascinating clash played at the Babayara Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Goals from Saddick Adams and Amos Frimpong for the Porcupine Warriors ensured a safe passage to the next round of the competition whilst Obeng Kwadwo Junior’s goal for
NEA Salamina could only serve as a consolation.

The game was indeed a fascinating duel especially in the first half with the Division One side proving a very difficult side for the eight-time champions.

Saddick Adams goal in the first half was cancelled out by a superb strike from Obeng Kwadwo Junior who tormented the Kotoko defence with his dazzling skills.

A late penalty decision awarded to Kotoko by referee Nuhu Yakubu and was calmly converted by Amos Frimpong in the late stages of the second half as Kotoko secured a spot to the next round of the competition.

Hearts of Oak, Medeama and Wa All Stars have already qualified to the semi-final stage of the competition and a semi final draw is expected to take place on August 22 at the M Plaza Hotel in Accra.
