Kufuor Scholars Program (KSP) Holds Community Project At Mepe Battor 

Kufuor Scholars Program

The 2018 Kufuor Scholars Program (KSP) Community Project was held at Mepe Battor in the Volta Region of Ghana.

The Kufuor Scholars Program (KSP) which is aimed at mentoring young people to become catalysts for sociopolitical and economic transformation through effective leadership in their chosen fields of endeavor on Friday, December 7, 2018 collaborated with Korle Bu medical team to offer eye testing and breast screening in Mepe Battor, a village in the Volta Region of Ghana.

There was a talk from a team of Doctors from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to the staff and students of St. Kizito Senior High School in Mepe, a community in the North Tongu Constituency. Dr. Florence Dedey and Prof. Clegg Lamptey of the Korle Bu medical team spoke about causes and treatment of Breast Cancer.

Dr. Josephine Nsaful touched on cervical cancer. She advised the students to desist from having sex because cervical cancer can be contracted through indiscriminate sexual activities. Principal Nursing Officer at the Korle-Bu teaching hospital eye centre, Mrs. Dorothy Fiadoyor spoke about causes of eye problems and treatment.

Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for the area advised the students to be disciplined and study hard in order to achieve success. After the talk, there was free eye and breast screening for the staff and students of Mepe St. Kizito SHS.

Dr. Pascal Brenya, coordinator for the Kufuor Scholars Program on behalf of the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation  donated books to the school.

The scholars also offered assistance to students with some academic work and also engaged in community cleaning at the Volta lake as part of effort to sanitize the community to prevent diseases.

The Kufuor Scholars Program (KSP) was established to serve as the vehicle for preparing and grooming young people of today to become transformational leaders of tomorrow for Ghana and Africa.

This vision, which is informed by the dream and vast experiences of H.E John Agyekum Kufuor, former President of the Republic of Ghana and founder of the John A Kufuor Foundation, is grounded in his conviction that good leadership holds the key to good governance and sustainable development in Africa.
