Normally when it comes to kente, Bonwire in the Ashanti Region is the only name that rings a bell in the ears of many Ghanaians.
However, there are equally beautiful kente from the Volta Region as well, in places like Agortime, Kpetoe and Agbozume respectively .
The difference between the Ashanti and Volta kente is that the Ashanti Kente combines three bright colours whiles the ones from the Volta Region combines just two colours and a shiny touch which gives it that shiny look.
When Ghanacrusader.com’s Stella Annan visited the Arts center in Accra, She noticed that most people also use the Volta kente mostly without their knowledge.
Mr Eric Boateng, a kente dealer at the arts center confirmed that the Ashanti Kente is purchased more because of how the Ashanti Kente has been Marketed and is now widely known, he however believes that the Volta kente is also coming up in terms of its marketability.
He also explained that some of the Ashanti Kente are named after high profile profile people which makes it easy to identify. Meanwhile most of the Volta Kente have names that can only be identified with people from that part of Volta region .
He urged that when we are on the Kente market customers should also note that apart from the bright coloured Ashanti Kente, there are also the shiny kente from the Volta Region which are equally beautiful.
