Black Stars Head coach Kwesi Appiah is set to axe experienced John Boye and Afriyie Acquah from his provisional 30-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations set to be named on Wednesday, GhanaCrusader sources within the team reveal.
Appiah will be presenting his provisional squad before the Ghana Football Association’s Normalization Committee and the Black Stars Management Committee today in view to unveiling the squad on Wednesday.
But the coach’s naming of the squad has already been preceded by the dramatic resignation of the team’s captain, Asamoah Gyan, who quits the team over an imminent decision by Appiah to take the captain’s armband from him and hand it to Andre Ayew for reported spiritual reasons.
Boye, who helped Metz gained promotion to Ligue 1, is believed to be a strong ally of Asamoah Gyan and Appiah doesn’t trust his loyalty, same as Acquah.
Ghana will hold a 3-week training camp in Dubai before flying out to Egypt for the AFCON which kicks off on June 21.
