Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak has signed a new four-year contract with Atlético de Madrid the club announced on Wednesday. Speaking to the club’s official portal, Oblak, 26, said: ” “I will always give my best to defend these colors with everything, I will continue to work hard.”
Oblak joined the club in 2014 from Benfica after loan spells with Beira-Mar, Olhanense, União de Leiria and Rio Ave and has played 203 matches and kept 115 clean sheets since for the Diego Simeone side.
In his stay in Madrid, Oblak has won Spanish Super Cup (2014), a UEFA Europa League (2017-18) and a European Super Cup (2018) with the club. On an individual level, Oblak was part of the UEFA Champions League team 2015-16 and 2016-17, UEFA Europa League 2017-18 and was named Slovenian Player of the Year in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
At 26 years, he is the fifth goalkeeper with more games in the club’s history. With his 203 games, he is the fifth keeper with the most appearance in the club history after that of Reina (213), Madinabeytia (236), Molina (248) and Abel (303). Precisely it was Abel Resino who gave him the commemorative plaque after reaching 200 games in defending Atletico’s shirt.
