Ibrahim Sunday, a member of the Black Stars Management Committee, has revealed that he was receiving GH¢ 2 a week during his playing days for the senior national team the Black Stars of Ghana.
The former Asante Kotoko coach stated they played for the national team without any better financial motivation from the governments but now the trend has changed, because even countries who are very poor are now spending big monies on their national teams.
Sunday disclosed information about the financial support they got from their playing days in an interview with Ghanacrusader’s Sports.
“We weren’t getting anything. You cannot tell me that taking two cedis a week at that time is enough to buy even a bicycle. So we were not getting anything,we were playing for the love of the country but today it has change”
“Every country, the poorest country in the world even when its come to sports spend money on them (National Teams) and their people don’t say anything”He said.
He added that its baffles him that the current crop of Black Star players are not enjoying the kind of support they got from their playing days.
“So i am still wondering why u(Ghanaians) don’t support your country,so we are all in the same boat,we have to come together and solve our problems ourselves and come back to support our country”
