In what looks like mission impossible for Charles K Akunnor and his charges as they embark on a trip to Zambia to face Zesco United in the CAF Confederations cup last group game, the gaffer has been talking up his side’s chances of qualification.
For Asante Kotoko to progress to the next stage of the competition, they need to grind a win against the Zambians on Sunday. The task in itself is tough and the fact that they will have to do so without certain important players makes it tougher for the Porcupine warriors.
Following their 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal last weekend the injury list of Kotoko has increased plus a major blow, their top striker , Sogne Yacouba missing the game due to suspension. Speaking ahead of the game this weekend ,C.K. Akonnor, is backing his players to put up a massive performance even in the absence of key players in the team.
“No coach will be happy if he has key players injured. It is very a painful experience. Last Saturday during training, we lost Abdul Ganiyu to injury. Before then, it was Maxwell Baako, Richard Senanu and the rest.
“However, we are going to Zambia without them. There is nothing we can do about that. What we can do is to think, be smart and try to get a victory.”. He told the media.
Sunday’s game is a must win encounter and Asante Kotoko need a straight win to qualify regardless of what transpires in the other game between Al Hilal and Nkana in Sudan.
