Member of Parliament for the Sekondi constituency in the Western Region, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, has said the three girls that were kidnapped in Takoradi must be brought to their families if indeed the police claims about finding the girls are true.

The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) revealed about two weeks ago that it has in partnership with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), established the whereabouts of the three Takoradi girls, but nothing has since been heard about them.

Many have questioned the rational behind the CID boss’ motive for putting out that “sensitive information” when the girls are yet to brought home.

The police have since come under pressure to bring the girls back home if indeed their claims are true.

Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah, is the latest to mount pressure, calling on Parliament to summon the Minister for Gender, Children and Protection and the Interior minister to answer questions on the whereabouts of the girls who have gone missing since last year.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day Monday, the Sekondi MP said the call for summon of the ministers is in the right direction, emphasizing the girls must be reintegrated with their families once they are found.

MP for the Ningo Prampram constituency also agreed that the police must answer and justify their announcement on the girls, expressing confidence in the quality of the Ghana Police Service.

“I believe it when the police say they know where the girls are, but something could be holding them from acting”, he said.

According to him, the Ghana police is the best in West Africa when it comes to intelligence gathering. He would however not conjecture on what exactly it is that is holding them back, but doubts they do not know where the girls are.

He urged Mr. Appiah to officially petition parliament on the matter.
