Authorities of the University of Education Winneba have asked students to vacate the school by 6pm Thursday, March 14, after students went on rampage for the successive day. The University has been closed down following demonstration by students which turned violent.
According to the Central Regional Minister and also the Head of security in the region, the students intention to demonstrate has been lingering for days now, a situation which called for talks between the security and the student body but it proved until the violent clash today.
“The student has been wanting to demonstrate for days, but they were advised by the winneba police commander to use the appropriate means but to no avail.The student were engaged in vandalizing school properties and shattering the windows of the university offices and buses” he explained
The Minister revealed that, upon advice by the regional security council (REGSEC) of which he is the head, called for a close down of the school until further notice. Information gathered by Ghanacrusader.com at the scene indicates that in the ensuing melee, about five students have been rushed to the hospital with injuries and one reportedly dead.
The demonstration by the students is also to press their demands for the dismissal of the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni.
