In a sudden-turn around,Ghanaian footballer, Asamoah Gyan has pulled back his decision to withdraw from any further involvement with the senior national team, the Black Stars after engagements with the President of the Republic and managers of the nation’s football.
Gyan’s decision to retire from the Black Stars on Monday, because of head coach Kwasi Appiah’s decision to readjust leadership of the playing body did not receive the public reaction he hoped for, with majority of the sports-loving public questioning his actual commitment to the national course, as it appeared he had put personal interests above national interests.
Gyan who enjoys a some-what colored relationship with the President, released a statement on Wednesday morning highlighting the role of the president in his switch in decision stating, “a presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded”.
He also announced his decision to make himself available for selection by the head coach, affirming, ” I will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah”.
Gyan is now expected to be named in Ghana’s AFCON squad which will begin camping on June 1.
The distracting nature of this rather unnecessary piece of captaincy drama highlights the onward perception that all is not exactly well within the Black Stars setup.
