Hours after pulling back his ill-timed decision to retire from international football, following his protestations about the shift in captaincy of Ghana’s senior national team, Asamoah Gyan has been named in the confirmed list of Black Stars players for AFCON 2019 camping in Abu Dhabi.
Gyan who did not take kindly to news of the re-designation of his role within the Black Stars squad, announced his retirement from international football, shortly afterwards in a strongly-toned press release.
He turned his earlier decision over its head, less than 48 hours after, stressing that an intervention from the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo urged him to reconsider his decision.
Having been named in the official provisional squad, Gyan is expected to join 28 other players in training for the AFCON that begins on 21st June in Egypt.
The national team is expected to swing into full training early next month with head coach Kwasi Appiah expected to seal off his final 23- man squad for the tournament weeks after.
