Ghana’s senior national women’s team, the Black Queens are poised to ride over Nigerian opposition today to seal a place in the final of the WAFU Zone B Women’s Championship.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Mali 2-0 in Tuesday’s final Group B encounter to set up the clash with Ghana as the Black Queens drew with hosts Cote D’ Ivoire in their final group game after convincing victories over Senegal and Togo. The Togolese were hammered with six goals.
Ghana’s path of triumph in last year’s edition of the competition was highlighted by their semifinal defeat of Nigeria in a pulsating game which ran its full course and was decided on penalties.
Acknowledging the shades of differences between the previous Nigerian team and the current one present at this year’s tournament, head coach of the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe-Quacoo, insisted: “We are ready for Nigeria and we have prepared well for the game. There is a lot of difference in this Nigerian team than the one we played against last year”.
She also affirmed the trophy-winning mentality of her team saying,” I am confident in my players and should they approach the game just like how they did in our previous matches I am sure we will win”.
The game is expected to kick off at around 6pm Ghanaian time.
