Member of the Normalisation Committee’s Special Competition, Kennedy Boakye
Ansah, has descended heavily on Asante Kotoko Communications Director, describing him as childish.
Asante Kotoko’s Communications Director, Lawyer Sarfo Duku is reported to have said the club have not received an e-mail sent by the Football Association on regulations governing the Special Competition.
Describing his comments as laughable and childish, Mr. Boakye Ansah insisted all clubs involved in the competition received the mail and are aware of the rules and regulations.
Kotoko will be playing arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the semi-finals of the ongoing NC’s Special Competition at the Accra Sports Stadium but the club appear unhappy at the idea of they playing a one off semi-final game. The Club have also suggested for the semi finals to be played on neutral grounds as it is a one-off game.
Kotoko’s request is based on the old competition regulations released on 7 February 2019. Article 11(5) states that the four teams (that qualify from the group) shall engage in double-legged semi-finals and two winners shall qualify for the finals.
Meanwhile, Article 12(5) of the new regulations released on 22 March 2019 which Lawyer Sarfo Duku used as his grounds should be paramount.
In an interview on Metro 94.1 FM in Kumasi, Kennedy Boakye Ansah said “What Lawyer Sarfo Duku is saying is extremely laughable , sad and childish. How come all the 48 division one clubs and 15 premiership clubs got the mail and a club like Kotoko didn’t get theirs. I least expected that from him.”
He added that, “The same mail contained the fixtures as well so if he is telling us they didn’t get it, how did they know their opponents in the tournament? Besides it was a bulk message and we would have resent it if we saw it didn’t sail through.’’
