Asamoah Gyan’s shocking decision to quit international football, less than 24 hours ago, as Ghana’s senior national team firms up preparations for next months Africa Cup Of Nations(AFCON) has been received with mixed reactions across the continent with several conspiracy theories at the fore.
Gyan’s stand-out reason for his permanent withdrawal from international involvement with Ghana’s national team stemmed from his frustrations in the shift in captaincy of the squad as his official statement yesterday pointed out.
With the rattling issue now a thriving matter in the Ghanaian public space , popular perception heads in deputy captain Andre Ayew’s way as the leading name to be handed the substantive captaincy of the Black Stars.
However, former Black Stars player and member of Ghana’s Normalization Special Cup organizing committee, Augustine Arhinful, contrary to mass public perception has asserted that the captaincy of the side could be headed anywhere.
“Akwasi Appiah has not said that Dede Ayew is the new captain, a different guy could be named the captain, anybody can be Black Stars captain. Who knows what will happen? People should stop putting word’s in Akwesi Appiah’s mouth”, Mr. Arhinful said in an interaction with Adom FM, on Tuesday morning.
