Black Stars midfielder, Andre Ayew has bemoaned the packed in-tournament roster at the upcoming Africa Cup Of Nations(AFCON) in Egypt.
Alluding to the expected tightness of schedule by virtue of the increase in participating teams from 16 to 24, Ayew who has played in six AFCONs since making his debut in the tournament over a decade ago, foresees the demands of the packed roster.
The previous 16-team AFCON format allowed for up to four days of rest with group games spread evenly within the tournament calendar, however, the new arrangement may require teams to play repeated games with relatively minimal rest days and Ayew is wary of it.
” Playing every three days will be very hectic, ” he said, asserting the physical demands it would have on players at the tournament.
The Fenerbahce player featured in Ghana’s lone goal victory over the Harembee stars of Kenya, captaining the Black Stars in a lone goal triumph that won Ghana the AFCON qualifying group last Saturday in Accra.
