The swift naming of a committee to set grounds for the organisation of a special competition for football clubs has split opinions within football circles.
The GFA Normalization Committee(NC) in a failed attempt to organize a special competition to replace the Ghana premier league, which was frozen out, accused premier league clubs of grandstanding and sabotaging the special competition, citing greed.
The standoff prompted a stakeholders meeting involving the Ministry of Sports, Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports ,the Normalization Committee and the Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA) in a bid to put some life in the local football scene and a seven-member committee comprising of Honorable Perry Okudzeto(as chairman), Hon. OB Amoah, Madam Lucy Quist, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, Mr. Kurt Okraku, Mr Randy Abbey and Alex Asante was set-up to provide a headway for the commencement of the notorious Special Competition.
Rumors suggest irritation by the Chairman of the Normalization Committee, Dr.Kofi Amoah who feels elbowed by the ministry of sports and refused to sit in the stakeholders meeting held yesterday. The chairman feels the mandate of the Committee has been stolen by the ministry in the light that the committee has been branded incompetent in the eyes of the Ghanaian public.
