Ghana midfielder Samuel Mensah Darpoh made his second Premier Soccer League appearance on Tuesday as AmaZulu played out a 0-0 draw with Maritzburg United at the Minenhle Mkkhize ATT King Zwelithini Stadium.
The 20-year-old lasted 85 minutes in the KZN derby , starting in the number 6 role for Cavin Johnson’s side.
The AmaZulu coach made six changes for the match.With Moeneeb Josephs, Butholezwe Ncube, Sibusiso Mabiliso, Thapelo Nyongo, Ramphele and Jabulani Ncobeni all dropped to the bench while Siyabonga Mbatha, Samuel Darpoh, Marc Van Heerden, Sadat Akoriko, Emiliano Tade and Ovidy Karuru replaced them in the starting eleven.
Black Stars Goalkeeper Richard Ofori was in between the sticks for Maritzburg United in that particular encounter.
In an exclusive interview with Ghanacrusader.com, Darpoh revealed that he was impressed with his side’s performance on the day despite settling for just a point in that encounter.
“I don’t think a draw is bad for us.This is a derby game and nobody wants to lose.We fought harder today and I think our teamwork did the magic for us today.We shouldn’t be disappointed with this performance because it gives us a lot of hope going into the weekend;s game against Pirates[Orlando Pirates]”.
Darpoh has been at the club since 2015 and was making his second league appearance in six matches.He was an integral member for the side to secure promotion from the National First Division last season.
Samuel Darpoh is a former Okwahu United player.The defensive midfielder would be expecting to start again for Amazulu when they travel to face Orlando Pirates in Umlazi on Saturday.
