Kenya played out a 0-0 draw with Ethiopia in their third group game of the 2019 AFCON Qualifiers at the Bahir Dar Stadium in Addis Ababa on Wednesday.
The Harambee stars traveled to Addis Ababa and managed to secure a point to go top of Group F.
Coach of Ethiopia ,Abraham Mebratu made just a single change to his side that defeated Sierra Leone over the last international break.
His charges dominated both halves of the encounter but fluffed their lines with the limited scoring opportunities that came their path, getting just two of their twelve shots at goal on target.
The Walias came very close in breaking the deadlock in the second half but Shemeles Bekele was denied by the woodwork. His shot from outside the box could could not find the back of the net.
With Sierra Leone’s FIFA ban, Ethiopia’s win over them in September could be rendered null so the Walias needed to win against Kenya to propel their chances of qualifying to the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.
The game saw the return of Tottenham Hotspurs star Victor Wanyama into the Kenya national team after missing out on Kenya’s 1-0 win over the Black Stars in Nairobi last month.
As a result of the 0-0 stalemate with Ethiopia, Kenya have moved top of group F with four points from three games in Group F whereas Ghana have three points out of two matches.
