Iker Casillas has become the first player to participate in 20 Champions League seasons.
The FC Porto goalkeeper reached the mark when he started his side’s opening Group D match against Schalke on Tuesday.
With the appearance, Casillas has now gone past Manchester United legend and former assistant manager Ryan Giggs, who featured in 19 UEFA Champions League campaigns.
The 37 year old goalkeeper played in 16 Champions League campaigns with Real Madrid, and is currently doing a fourth with Portuguese outfit Porto
Included in the pool of top four players is Arjen Robben who featured for Bayern Munich against Benfica last night, he is tied on same level with Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, who also participated in 17 seasons in Europe’s prestigious inter-club competition.
Meanwhile Dutchman Arjen Robben also has a record of playing for Chelsea ,Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to reach such height.
Both Iker Casillas(Spain) and Arjen Robben(Netherlands) were finalist at the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa where Casillas won the trophy with Spain.
