His Excellency President Nana Akufo Addo is set to launch one of three proposed development authorities to propel Ghana’s progress in Kumasi today.

The Middle Belt Development Authority will coordinate development programmes in the  Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Eastern Regions.

Interacting with Joy News on the sidelines on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Delegates’ Conference in Kumasi at the weekend, Senior minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo says he is hopeful the initiatives will bring relief to Ghanaians.

The Middle Belt Development Authority which was among the three proposed development authorities was first announced during the NPP electioneering campaign and was said to administer the proposed infrastructure for poverty eradication Programm (IPP)

IPEP was touted as programme that will champion the infrastructural development and poverty alleviation in rural and deprived communities across the country.

The two other development authorities include the Northern Development Authority, for the three regions of the north of Ghana; and the coastal development authority for the four coastal regions.

Nontheless, the senior minister noted, the Middle Belt Development Authority would now have a mandate that extend beyond administering the proposed IPEP.

”If you put Eastern, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions together as a development area, you are looking at the ecology of these three-forest to savannah. They have common minerals.” He opined

Mr Osafo Marfo salso stressed that government determination to investigate huge debts at the Metropolis , Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for appropriate action.

The Mahama-led administration left huge debts in the Ashanti Region but the current  government will carefully examine the debt records and appropriate action.
