Former Ghana FA vice president George Afriyie has affirmed his interest in the vacant Ghana FA presidential position.

The nation’s football governing body presidency has become vacant since Kwesi Nyantakyi stepped down five months ago following allegations of corruption levelled against him.

In the aftermath of the Anas Number 12 exposé, FIFA and CAF appointed a five-member Normalisation Committee to sanitize the nation’s football for six months before a new Ghana FA president can be elected through congress.

Several top names have been linked with the top position but Mr Afriyie believes his experience of serving in various capacity of the FA will give the edge over his competitors and says it will depend on the time the Normalisation Committee will be done with their blueprint.

“I have said this time without number that I am a candidate for 2019 but it will depend on the road map of the Normalisation Committee,” Mr Afryie stated on Oyerepa FM.

The Liberty Professionals director was appointed by Nyantakyi in 2015. He however was sacked in 2018 after declaring his intention of contesting for the presidency whiles the beleaguered former CAF 1st Vice president was still at post.
