Four of Ghana’s athletes at the 2018 Youth Olympics will be in action today as they compete in three different events in Buenos Aires.
After Abeiku Jackson had failed to make it to the final of the 50 m men’s butterfly last night, four athletes from Ghana will be seeking to redeem the image of the country in their respective events today.
Weightlifter Sandra Mensimah Owusu will start the campaign by competing in the women’s 58kg event. She is only 18 years old without a medal at any competitive level and would be eyeing a good showdown today in Buenos Aires.
Also, beach volleyball pair of Eric Tsatsu and Kelvin Carboo will be at it again after beating Monaco on Tuesday, setting their eyes on a spot in the next round of the competition.
They come face to face with Costa Rica in a must win encounter to increase their chances of progressing to the next stage.
Mumuni Moro is head coach of the beach Volley ball team, he believes Costa Rica are not invincible and that his charges can nail them with a good performance.
“They(Costa Rica) are deadly but they also have their weak point ,so we can beat them“. He told Joy Sports.
Finally, Solomon Diafo will take to the athletics track today in the Men’s 400 m heat.He is just 17 years old and already has a bronze medal to his name after finishing 3rd at the All African games in Algiers.
So with Abeiku Jackson out of the window, beach volley pair of Eric Tsatsu and Kelvin Carboo,Sandra Mensimah Owusu and Solomon Diafo remain Ghana’s only hope of nicking a medal in Argentina.
